Sweet Nora

In attempt to document the first year of Nora's life (since Charlotte is nearly 3 and I am STILL working on her baby book), I've decided to re-visit our blog. Most of these posts will likely be all about Nora and her current happenings. Nora was born on May 29 at 7:18 weighing in a 7lbs 6oz and measuring 20 1/4 inches long. She came into this world screaming (literally), but has been an extremely mellow baby so far (Art and I are holding our breath). Our stay at the hospital was long, due to my C-section as well as a little heart scare the day we were supposed to check out of the hospital. We were getting all packed up and ready to head home when the nurse on duty did a final check of Nora's vitals. She heard a small heart murmur that resulted in a late in the day echo-cardiogram. She ended up having something called VSD (basically a small hole in her heart). Luckily it is relatively common at birth and usually closes on its own (at her 1 week visit her pediatrician confirmed hers had already closed). Long story short we left the hospital late in the evening on Friday, more than ready to start life at home as a family of 5.

Almost 2 weeks in, things are going well. Claire and Charlotte have adjusted well and have been extremely sweet with Nora...LOTS of hugs and kisses. Art was off work the last 2 weeks and it has been so nice to have him home with us. We done a lot of family outings and I've really appreciated his help around the house. Nora has been busy eating and sleeping...pretty much normal stuff for a 2 week old. While she is still figuring out her days and nights, I'm much more relaxed about the lack of sleep the third time around. In part due to experience and the fact that this is likely my last newborn to cuddle with during the early hours of the morning.

We are so happy to have welcomed her into our family. Life is good. 06.04 (10) 06.04 (19)

It has been a long time...

I haven't had time or motivation to post anything lately...clearly as it has been almost 2 months. I'm going to try to be better. I figure that I need a place to capture our pictures since I never manage to print any of them out. Work has been super busy for both Art and I for what feels like months...and I am dreading the cold winter weather. Sounds like it is only a matter of days before snow covers the ground. In an effort to hold onto fall just a little bit longer, here are a few pictures of the girls in the leaves. The LOVED jumping in them and could have played in them for hours. So much fun to watch!

Summer Vacation

This post of long overdue. I can't seem to find the time to devote to blogging lately. We headed up to Grandview Lodge in July for our annual summer trip with Art's family. The girls have more and more fun with every year that goes by. The weather was perfect and there were plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. I took over 200, so don't be surprised if a few more make an appearance some time soon.

Two Years Old

Two years old...sweet baby girl, when did you grow up?07.23.11 Grandview (222)

You are sweet and gentle. You love to cuddle before you fall asleep and if you had it your way we would rock you to sleep each and every night. For a long time we did just that (because we liked it just as much as you), but have gotten tough these last few weeks. It has been HARD. Not so much at bedtime, but definitely at naptime. You are often up in your crib for over an hour before you finally give in and crash. You have a hard time settling down to sleep and I have a feeling its because you don't want to miss out on anything. We will see how long this napping thing actually lasts...
You love your babies and could play with them for hours. Covering them up, putting them to sleep, and singing to them. You take them on stroller rides, bring them with you in the car, and give them plenty of hugs and kisses. At night, you sleep with two of your favorites and refuse to go to sleep without them.

You are a talker. You speak in full sentences and your vocabulary continues to amaze us. We probably need to give Claire some of the credit as you pretty much repeat every word that comes out of her mouth.
You are also a singer. Your daily notes from school often say how much you love to sing. Row your Boat and A,B,Cs are the two we hear most often, although tonight Daddy commented that he has also been teaching you a few Bob Dylan songs before he puts you down at night. :)

You definitely have your feisty side as well. You know what you want and if things don't go your way, you let us know how you feel about it. A few weeks ago, I took Claire and you to Potbelly for dinner. You had a carton of milk with a straw and were having a hard time getting the last bit of milk out. You were mad. I tried to help you, but it only made things worse. We ended up leaving half way through dinner. You screamed the whole way home. And then you were done...just like that. I guess you really are TWO.
Like most other kids, you love playing outside. We were at the cabin a few weeks ago and you were in heaven down by the beach, filling up buckets of water and digging the sand. You come home from school covered in dirt from head to toe and I am convinced you must dump buckets of sand over your head. At least I know you are having a good time.

You are an entertainer. You can put on a pretty good show. You dance and jump on command with a huge smile on your face. Some nights before bed, Claire and you take turns singing solos. At first you were a little hesitant to stand up and sing all by yourself, but now there is no stopping you. You love all the attention. The other night you were singing and I starting singing along. You gave me a look and said 'Mommy, no singing!' Guess you thought I was trying to steal the spotlight.

You adore Claire. When you wake in the morning, the first words out of your mouth are 'where's Claire?'. The two of you play together for hours on the weekend. You play house and school and babies. She bosses you around and you happily follow her instructions without complaint. For now it works, and you really are the best of friends. Makes me smile.

Charlotte, I can't imagine our family without you. You are an amazing little girl and we love watching your little personality emerge. Happy Birthday!

Close

This picture makes me smile. It illustrates just how close these two little girls are these days. They LOVE to play with one another. They play house and school and pretend they are crazy monsters chasing each other around the house. They color and paint and dance to music. They build sand castles and ride bikes and cars and swing next to each other at the park. They dress up in fancy dresses and shoes and pretend they are princesses. They make funny faces and talk in crazy voices and giggle until their cheeks are sore. Right now they are the closest of friends and I am loving every minute.
